ABOUT NDA EXAM

The National Defence Academy (NDA) Exam is a prestigious entrance examination conducted twice a year by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). It offers a unique opportunity for Indian male and female candidates who aspire to join the Army, Navy, and Air Force. This examination comprises two stages: A written test followed by an interview process managed by the Services Selection Board (SSB).

How to apply for NDA 1 2024

NDA 2 apply online link was available from 21 April, 2024. Interested candidates can fill NDA application form 2024 online. Before filling the application form, candidates are required to complete the One Time Registration Process. The fee can be paid both online and offline.

The steps to fill the NDA application form are given below:

  1. NDA Apply Online Process
  2. Visit the official website of UPSC
  3. Complete the OTR Process if not registered earlier
  4. Those who are already registered can directly fill the application form
  5. Registration process can be completed in two parts i.e. Part I & Part II
  6. Part I include basic registration and other details while Part II includes uploads of scanned photographs, signature, fee payments etc.
  7. Choose the preferred exam centres while filling the application form
  8. Candidates must fill the personal, educational qualification, address and other details carefully
  9. Candidates are also given the facility to withdraw NDA 1 application form 2024
  10. Candidates need to upload scanned documents in the specific format
  11. Candidates should not send the hard copy of the application form to the examination authority
  12. Take printout of the application form after final submission

NDA ADMIT CARD

The admit card for the NDA examination is released a few weeks before the exam date. Candidates must download it from the official UPSC website and carry it to the examination center:

  1. Visit the UPSC official website
  2. Click on the ‘E-Admit Card – NDA & NA’ link Provide the necessary login credentials
  3. Download and print the admit card

NDA RESULT

The results of the NDA examination are declared in two stages – the first stage includes candidates qualifying for the written examination, and the second stage includes qualified candidates after the SSB Interview process.

UPSC releases the results on its official website, and candidates can check their results using the following steps:

  1. Visit the UPSC official website
  2. Click on the ‘Written Results’ or ‘Final Results’ link
  3. Select the NDA examination results
  4. Download the PDF file containing the list of qualified candidates
  5. Search for your roll number in the list

NDA CUT-OFF

The cut-off for the NDA examination varies each year and depends on factors such as the number of candidates appearing, the difficulty level of the exam, and the number of vacancies. UPSC declares cut-off marks for both written exams and final selection - candidates are required to score equal to or above the cut-off marks to qualify for the next stage. The cut-off marks are disclosed after the declaration of the final result. To get a rough idea of the expected cut-off, candidates can refer to the previous years’ cut-off trends.

Candidates must fulfill the following eligibility criteria before applying for the NDA exam:

  • Age: Candidates should be between 16.5 and 19.5 years of age at the time of commencement of the course
  • Nationality: Only Indian citizens are eligible
  • Educational Qualification: 12th passed or appearing students from a recognized board are eligible for Army Wing, whereas 12th passed or appearing students with Physics and Mathematics are eligible for the Air Force and Naval Wing
  • Physical Fitness: Candidates must meet specific physical fitness standards as prescribed by the defence services


EXAM PATTERN

The NDA exam pattern consists of a written examination and an interview process:

  • Written Examination: Paper 1: Mathematics (300 marks | 2.5 hours duration) ; Paper 2: General Ability Test (GAT) (600 marks | 2.5 hours duration)

Both papers feature objective-type, multiple-choice questions with negative marking for incorrect answers

  • SSB Interview Process: -Personal Interview, Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks, Psychological Tests, and a Conference round (900 marks in total). This process evaluates the candidates’ personality traits, leadership skills, mental and physical abilities, and decision-making qualities.

The NDA exam syllabus comprehensively covers topics from Mathematics, English, and General Knowledge.

Below is an outline of the syllabus:

  1. Mathematics: Algebra, Matrices and Determinants, Trigonometry, Analytical Geometry, Differential Calculus, Integral Calculus and Differential Equations, Vector Algebra, Statistics and Probability.
  2. English: Grammar and Usage, Vocabulary, Comprehension, and Cohesion.
  3. General Knowledge: Physics, Chemistry, General Science, History, Geography, Polity, Current Affairs, and Environment.
SELECTION PROCEDURE

NDA SELECTION PROCEDURE

  1. Written Examination: Candidates must clear the written exam, which comprises Mathematics (Paper 1) and General Ability Test (Paper 2).
  2. SSB Interview Process: Qualifying candidates from the written exam are called for the SSB Interview, where they undergo Personal Interview, Group Testing Officer (GTO) tasks, Psychological Tests, and a Conference round. Medical Examination: After clearing the SSB Interview, candidates must undergo a medical examination conducted by the Board of Service Medical officers. The medical test evaluates candidates’ physical fitness, height, weight, eyesight, and overall health.
  3. All India Merit List: Based on the combined scores in the written examination and the SSB Interview, UPSC prepares an All India Merit List. Candidates are ranked according to their total marks, and those who meet the qualifying criteria are recommended for admission to the Army, Navy, or Air Force wings of the NDA (National Defence Academy).
  4. Final Selection: After being medically certified and recommended by the Service Selection Board, finally selected candidates receive joining instructions to commence their training at the NDA (National Defence Academy), Khadakwasla, Pune.
